Hongshixia was formed based on the geological movements in the past over 1 billion years accompanying with many times of orogenic movements and water erosion. Since the 2.6 million years, Hongshixia valley formed as zigzag shape due to the surface water incision alsong two groups of fractures in the red quartz sandstones. Hongshixia valley is about 1.5 km long, several meters to dozens of meters wide and over 60 m deep. Due to the oxidation of iron-bearing minerals, the rock became red color, which formed the fabulous views of red cliff and clean water.
