The whale bay is a hemi-circle curve of Qingtianhe. The name of it comes from the resemblance of the rock on the inner side of the bay to the head of a whale. It is a unique landform resulted from long-time erosion by flowing water in an area controlled by north-south extensional zones and subordinate east-west faults.
