Whale Bay is a semicircular curve of Qingtianhe. The name comes from the resemblance of the rock on the inner side of the bay to the head of a whale. This unique landform is the result of long-term erosion by flowing water in an area influenced by north-south extensional zones and subordinate east-west faults.
